The argument

Velocity is vanity.

Story points measure how much your team thinks it is doing. They do not measure what reaches a customer or what any customer can tell changed. A team can hit its velocity target every sprint and ship nothing that moves the business.

Cadence is the lever.

A tight deploy cadence forces every upstream choke point into the open. You cannot sustain a short rhythm if your stories take three weeks or your PRs sit open for days. That is why the fastest way to fix a slow team is to make them ship more often.

Idea to prod is the real timeline.

Teams track dev time, and sometimes review time. Almost nobody tracks the weeks an idea sat in the backlog before a human touched it. That dwell is where most of the real cost lives, and nobody is paid to see it.
